Greg Vaughan was hired as the third head football coach in Traverse City West history Monday. Vaughan, who becomes the first football coach to have held a head coaching job at more than one of the Traverse City schools, was chosen from a field of three finalists, Titans athletic director Jason Carmien said. Carmien cited Vaughan's diverse array of offensive schemes and broad experience as factors that separated him from the field.
Coach Vaughan immediately named Titans Defensive Coordinator Jason Morrow as Associate Head Coach, stating the longtime assistant coach "bled green" and whose defensive knowledge was extraordinary.
Vaughan had a 63-19 record in seven years guiding Traverse City St. Francis, including 2 state championships. A 1995 St. Francis graduate, Vaughan started on the offensive line in 1992 as the Gladiators won the school's first state championship in the playoff era. He played at Hope College for four years, was a student assistant at Hope for a season then coached the offensive line for East Grand Rapids and helped coach the Pioneers to a 14-0 record and a Division 3 championship. The next two years Vaughan spent as an assistant coach at Grand Valley State University, winning a national championship under head coach Brian Kelly. Vaughan went on to Randolph-Macon College in Virginia as offensive line coach and run game coordinator. He returned to Traverse City St Francis as Head Coach from 2008 to 2015. In 2016 he joined the staff at Traverse City West as offensive line coach. Coach Vaughan is excited to take on his new role at Traverse City West.
